What Durham Kennels Dog Training Can Offer You:
A Caring Home Environment
Durham Kennels is located on ten wooded acres in beautiful Berea, Kentucky, thirty miles from Lexington, Kentucky, just off I-75. It is owned and operated by dog trainer Jim Durham. Recommended by vets throughout Central Kentucky, Jim’s dog training expertise is drawn from over thirty years of professional experience. A trusted service in Berea for over twenty years, Durham Kennels has created a warm and welcoming environment for both you and your dog. Nestled on top of a hill with a gorgeous view, the kennel is surrounded by trees and flowers and is right next to Jim’s home, allowing him to give your pet the highest level of care and attention.
Friendly, Professional Service
Whether you have just purchased a brand-new pup or have opened your heart to an adoptee from a local animal shelter, Jim will provide expert advice, helpful problem-solving and consistent one-on-one guidance and support throughout the training process. During your initial phone call, he will take time to listen to you, assess your dog’s needs and talk with you at length about your dog’s living environment, family members, goals, and any issues or challenges you may currently be having. He will talk with you about what you can expect from basic obedience training and the important role you will play in the success of the training, as you and your dog learn and grow together.
Basic Obedience Training For All Breeds
For those looking for the optimum training experience, Jim is currently accepting reservations for his three-week in-kennel Board and Train Basic Obedience Program. This program is designed for dogs at least 18 weeks of age. Because only a few dogs are enrolled in this program per training period, Jim is able to maximize your dog’s potential in the shortest amount of time. He will work with your dog daily to instill the basic obedience commends, offering play time and exercise in addition to the training sessions. After the initial training period is complete, you will pick up your dog and have the first in a series of follow-up classes. For six weeks, Jim will continue to work with you one on one, teaching you how to properly execute each of the commands your dog has learned. All family members in the household (adults and children 14 and up) are invited and encouraged to attend these classes.
In addition to the Board and Train program, Jim also offers a Puppy Program. Specifically designed for owners of new pups, Jim will carefully guide you through the important first few weeks of pet ownership. Via phone consultations, he will offer valuable assistance, helping you to address typical puppy behaviors like chewing, nipping, and jumping up, while providing useful advice on everything from feeding to house-breaking.
Personal Coaching and Guidance
One of the keys to Jim’s success is his hands-on approach. From the first phone call to the last training class, he is with you every step of the way, providing personal coaching and guidance and helping to ensure that you develop a positive, lasting and rewarding relationship with your dog. Jim believes in the importance of good communication. Before training begins, Jim spends time getting to know you and your dog. He explains his training methods in detail, making sure you understand the vital role you will play in the outcome of your dog’s experience. During the three week in-kennel training, he encourages you to call often to check on your dog’s progress. And after your dog goes home, he provides critical follow-up through the individual training sessions. Throughout your dog’s training process, he is a phone call away and is always willing to provide guidance as questions and challenges arise.
An Important Decision
Because your dog is a beloved family member, Jim understands that choosing a qualified trainer is an important decision. That is why he encourages you to contact him and visit his facility to meet with him personally and see for yourself the “caring home environment” that he has created for your pet.

“Jim is a fantastic trainer! Our dog was nearly unmanageable when we dropped her off, and by the time we picked her up she had learned to sit, heel, stay, lie down, come, and is so good at all of it! Jim also has been very patient and thorough in training all of us to deal with the dog in the best way possible. We’re so glad we chose Durham Kennels!”
